Why You Should Make These Gluten Free Dairy Free Banana Muffins With Chocolate Chips

The simplicity of these gluten free dairy free banana chocolate chip muffins cannot be beat. There are no fancy ingredients, and everything you need to make these muffins is probably already in your kitchen. The batter takes less than 10 minutes to put together. They keep well and can be frozen for treats later in the month. Although, in my experience, they never last long enough to be frozen!

I love this recipe not only for its taste and simplicity but also for its flexibility. If you’d like, swap the chocolate chips for blueberries or raspberries or add in a few walnuts or pecans. Make these muffins your own with what you have on hand or what suits your dietary preferences. We happen to love chocolate chips over here, so that’s normally my go-to option.

Ingredients For Gluten Free Dairy Free Banana Muffins With Chocolate Chips

This recipe is made up of simple, wholesome ingredients you can find at any local grocery store. I’ve also included recipe substitutions you can use as well!

  • 1 1/2 Cups Gluten-Free Flour – such as Bob’s Red Mill 1-to-1 Baking Flour (may sub all-purpose flour of choice)
  • 1 Cup White sugar – could also use coconut sugar.
  • 1 tsp Baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp Salt
  • 3 Medium Bananas – the riper, the sweeter, the better!
  • 1 Egg – egg-free version noted below
  • 1/2 Cup Oil -I use avocado or refined coconut oil. Any light- or neutral-tasting oil will work in this recipe. You could also use butter. I’ve even found butter flavored coconut oil. Looking forward to giving it a try!
  • 1 tsp Vanilla
  • 1 Cup Chocolate Chips -optional, but delicious. I used Enjoy Life mini semi-sweet chips because they are dairy free. Feel free to use regular chocolate chips, fresh berries or toss in a half cup of chopped nuts if you wish!

Recipe Substitutions And Cooking Tips:

My goal is to help make this recipe work for YOU and your family’s needs! For my family, we try to stick to gluten free and dairy free, but I wanted to include some other options as I know each family is different.

  • Egg-Free/Vegan – substitute “flax eggs” for the eggs in the recipe. Mix together 1 tbsp ground flaxseed with 3 tbsp water. Let thicken for a few minutes, then proceed with the recipe. You’ll also want to be sure that you choose dairy-free chocolate chips, such as Enjoy Life.
  • Not gluten-free? Use all-purpose flour and follow the recipe as written. Because I use 1:1 Gluten Free Flour you can use regular flour interchangeably with this recipe.
  • Not a chocolate fan? Replace chocolate chips with chopped nuts of your choice, or a generous handful of berries!
  • Make it a loaf – bake at 375 for 45-55 minutes. Start checking for doneness (a toothpick or knife inserted in the center comes out clean when done) around 35 minutes or so.
